What is a stator?

Electric current is generated in the stator, which consists of a set of windings and a core. The placement of the fixed stator coils in the magnetic field created by the rotating rotor causes the electrons to move in the stator coils and finally generate electricity. The core of the stator is a grooved metal body that is actually formed by a number of iron rings. These rings are connected with rivets, special spikes or welds, which of course are also called dynamo cushions. The coils are also wrapped inside these core grooves. There is no connection between the coils and the stator core, and they are separated by insulation.

As mentioned, the number of stator windings is not the same and it consists of a set that includes several coils. These windings are connected at points that are actually the output of electricity from the stator. The electric current produced in the stator is alternating and the reason is that this electric current has a phase difference in the stator outputs. One of the differences between dynamos with the same number of coils, their diameter and material and the number of turns in the stator.

What components does the alternator consist of?

The work of the dynamo is based on the laws of physics in such a way that it produces induced current by using magnetic forces. A dynamo in a simple form consists of 7 main parts, each of which plays a role in producing the electricity required by the car. The components of the dynamo are:

What is the function of the alternator in the car?

If we were to express this function in one sentence, we should say that the alternator is responsible for supplying and producing the electricity needed by the car when the car is on. In fact, if there is no alternator, the battery will run out quickly.

The work of the alternator is to convert mechanical energy into electrical energy and send the produced current, which is a direct current, to the battery to supply the electricity needed by different parts of the car. At the same time, the dynamo also recharges the battery. If the alternator breaks down and doesn’t work properly, the battery can only provide the power the car needs for a limited time and the car will stop.

What is the cause of car alternator failure?

One of the most common electrical problems that usually occur in cars is related to alternator failure. If the alternator fails for any reason, the car will stop after a while and will not be able to continue.

One of the reasons for the failure of the alternator is related to the torn belt. The alternator is connected to the engine rotation circuit by a belt. For this reason, this part should be visited regularly so that if any tear or damage is observed, it should be replaced with a new belt immediately.
In the hot seasons of the year, the temperature of the engine usually increases and causes the secondary engine revolution in the engine. Also, leaving the car cooler on causes double pressure on the dynamo, which eventually increases the possibility of its failure. Urban traffic is another reason for alternator failure in these situations.
